A lot of Parma housing has hardwood original to the home, sitting under decades of wear or, in some cases, under carpet installed years ago. Refinishing addresses surface scratches, worn traffic paths, faded or cloudy finish, and uneven sheen without tearing out the existing floor.
The process: inspection, sanding, edge work, approved repairs, your choice of stain or a natural finish, then a professional-grade polyurethane topcoat. Some damage, like deep pet staining or long-term water intrusion, may go beyond what sanding alone can fix, so we flag that during the estimate rather than mid-project.
Cracked boards, water damage, gaps from old remodeling, and mismatched prior repairs are all things we handle before refinishing the surrounding area. We match replacement material to the existing floor as closely as possible in species, width, and grade, understanding that new wood will look slightly different until it's sanded and finished alongside the rest of the room.
You can keep your floor close to its original look with a natural finish, or shift the whole room with a new stain color that ties into your cabinets, trim, or furniture. We bring stain samples to test on your actual sanded floor rather than asking you to choose from a screen.
When refinishing isn't the right fit, either because too much of the floor needs replacing or you're adding hardwood to a new space, we also install solid and engineered hardwood. We inspect the subfloor and existing flooring first so the new installation transitions cleanly.

"In November 2025, we refinished the kitchen and dining area for a Parma homeowner after water damage had left several planks deeply discolored. She was worried the affected boards couldn't be saved. We replaced the worst of them, refinished the full area together, and the kitchen came out looking better than before the damage."
Usually, yes. If hardwood runs continuously between a kitchen, hallway, and living room, for example, refinishing just one section can leave a visible mismatch in color and sheen at the transition.
Surface scratches, yes, in most cases. Deep claw marks or stains that have soaked into the wood may need board replacement rather than just sanding.

Worn or outdated hardwood doesn't automatically mean replacement. In most cases, refinishing gets you a new-looking floor for less.
